Second Semester of My Second Year!

As I probably told or I didn't;
I honestly kept forgetting what did I blog about lol
(forgive me)
I didn't do well in my previous semester.

It was the most depressing, heart-breaking semester I had ever encountered in my
entire journey as a student.
(I'm very dramatic)

The point is;
I could see that coming!
*bam bam bam*

But I was testing my instinct and pretending that
this time my instinct was not right.

I should have trusted my instinct.

I wish...
If only...

Those two sentences were always in my mind;
what should I do?

I should come up with a system.

Based on Signals and System class... You don't want me to get going but really,
everything went back to your habits and attitudes.
(Not in every case, cause sometimes your prof didn't know how to teach and the marking scheme was not fair-- those are highly unavoidable) but habits and attitudes; you can fix them!

So I'm fixing my habits/attitudes.

I hope these systems work! I would share with you the result after this semester ends.

1. I wake up early every morning;
I make it a habit to do so.
(Previously I always missed morning tutorials/classes cause I was too tired staying up the night before)
Becoming a morning person is definitely a good thing.
I once thought that when I stayed up too late, till 4am in the morning,
I would study a lot. But I was wrong cause my brain just didn't function properly after 10pm.
This argument may sound so unfair, I have no scientific proof for this, but at least it works for me!
When I woke up early, my days seemed to be longer and I could study more than when I stayed up late!
Thus, I wake up early.

2. I never skip breakfast.
Okay I lied. I did skip breakfast but it has been a month of school, I skipped breakfast for less than 3 times! I could see a significant difference to my concentration level in class. Even if I only had a cup of hot chocolate or two bars of kit kat, it's good for me.

3. Do pray before you study, do not pray after you study.
This sentence is a bit confusing, but I will explain to you how does this work for me (psychologically).
Previously, I would study first, then only I performed my prayer.
For example, it's almost asr time, I was having a short break from studying;
I would continue my study and perform my asr prayer when it's almost maghrib time.
But what I could have done was to lengthen the break for 5 minutes, pray asr then continue my study.
Then, the next short break would be the time for me to have dinner and perform my maghrib prayer.
Allah has scheduled the 5 prayer times perfectly, we just have to manage our time accordingly :)

4. Study at the library
I cannot study at the same place for the every single time. I need to 'change the air'. So I study at the library, but I will study at different desks every time. My favourite spot is the 6th floor of Schulich Library because it's super quiet and I can refer to so many textbooks! It's like a book heaven to me!

5. Study with reliable friends
You may have a group of friends that you can hang out with, have fun with but they may not be the best bunch you wanna be with when it comes to studying! I used to be so against this idea when I was in high school. I used to think that all fun-fun friends would be the best gang to study with, but it;s not necessarily be the case because you might end up talking instead of studying! It's so true!
Now, I learn my lesson.
On Sundays I will spend time studying with some friends that are from the same class, so we can be on the same page and no one is left behind.

6. Sleep early!
If only I practise this golden rule before. 10pm is the maximum hour for me and I need to call it a day.
I will stop studying, I will do my night skin-care routine and I will sleep, latest by 11pm.
I will make sure I will have minimum of 8 hour beauty sleep! When I have enough sleep at night, I no longer need my power nap in the middle of the day; hence more time to spend in the library!

7. Consult the professor. On every questions you have.
I attend my professors' offie hour, every single time, and sometimes, I went with only 1 question in my head. I just need him/her to explain about this one concept that I didn't get in previous class. And I could never be more enlightened after that!

8. Never skip any tutorial/class
even though I think I have known everything about the course materials.
Cause I could be wrong! In tutorials, there'll be extra questions that the TA will share with the class and if I really pay my fullest attention in the tutorial, I don't have to study the same thing again!
REMEMBER!
Once a skipper, always a skipper!
DO NOT SKIP ANY CLASS!

So far, those 8 are my systems and strategies to strive for better grades this semester!
If you have any suggestion, please comment down below, I need guidance!

ps, I'm currently in the library, preparing for this week's quiz!
Wish me luck!

Love,
Aliah
