Exam Tips (Don't Follow Them If They Don't Fit You!)

For IB students,
this semester will be the toughest one.
Seniors once told me
that Semester 4 would be relaxing,
all you had to think of was your IB Final Exam.

NOPE!

This is the phase where
you have to correct everything--
your past written assignments,
EE, lab reports.

It was a totally insane semester for me.

However,
as an IB survivor,
I could give advices
on what should one do
during this semester,
knowing that
to advice someone not to procrastinate
is no longer valid at this moment of time :P

These advices are the things
that I should have done,
if I could turn back the time.

1. FOCUS ON YOUR GOAL
People often have their momentum decelerated
when it comes to final semester,
because somehow, our brains can be tired and
that could bring a bad effect to your life!
I felt this was when I was in Semester 4.
I felt tired of striving for the best,
I felt tired of exams,
I just wanted IB to end fast!
Don't commit the same mistakes.
You still have time to change!

2. PRODUCE THE BEST IRP NOTES
IRP notes are something that should be taken seriously.
You will have to divide the syllabus among your classmates
and produce notes for every subject.
Do it, properly.
Produce the highest quality notes that you can possibly produce.
When IB exam is nearer,
you don't have time to check those 300-page-textbooks;
that would be absurd and definitely a waste of time.
Do ensure that your classmates know the importance of having good IRP notes as well!
Especially when it comes to subjects that require a lot of memorisation;
economics, chemistry, biology etc.

3. MAKE FULL USE OF IRP SESSIONS
IRP sessions are compulsory to attend! Even if there's the strongest
magnetic attraction between you and your bed,
do come to IRP sessions!
Even if you think you know all of the contents and feel
like it's better to study alone,
do come to IRP sessions.
Personally, I prefer studying alone rather than
studying in a group where the conversation will
be less academic and end up with gossip sessions haha.
But as for IRP sessions that your school
has allocated time and place for them,
do come!
Ask teachers as many questions
that can overcome your curiosity
before it's too late.
Usually those questions that are playing in your head,
but you don't transform them into words and ask more knowledgable
persons, are the questions that will be tested in the exam!
So, ASK!
Keep all the IRP questions,
basically they're just past year papers
but they are super beneficial
because some questions are pretty much the same.

4. DO NOT DEPEND ON PAST EXAMS ONLY
I know this is very contradictory with my previous points,
but that is the bitter truth that Malaysian students hardly accept.
Some of the questions are designed to distinguish level of students.
You should know what you're learning.
As for me, my biggest mistake was to depend on past year papers only.
Some parts of IB materials,
I didn't quite understand,
but I chose to only memorise what're tested
in the past exams.
Do not do this,
it's troublesome!

5. READ QURAN
My grandpa always reminds me, till now,
(I receive birthday tazkirah yesterday)
Quran should be your best friend.
It has a lot of guidance.
It's true!
Read Al-Waqiah everyday,
it's to give you rezeki,
insyaAllah
Before you enter the exam hall,
do read this surah too,
instead of revising your notes
because revising notes can make you feel more panic.

6. STUDY
Yes, there're irp sessions,
extra classes and all, but do spend time to study on your own too!
People cannot feed you with knowledge every time,
you have to do something that can help you as well.
If you don't help yourself, who will?
Allah will help those who help themselves.

7. SEEK FOR FORGIVENESS
Do seek for forgiveness from your parents and teachers.
I owe them a lot,
and little that I know,
some of my acts might hurt them
and that could be barrier for me to be successful.
Seek for their forgiveness and bless too!
I have friends that don't believe in this,
they seems to be successful,
at first, but not forever.
Some might deny this fact,
but I don't.
Show your respects towards others is an essential way of living your life.
Respect is not given, it is earned.
We are not young forever, we will be older too!
We will have kids or might end up be educators.
We want others to respect us as well.
Therefore, we shall start doing that now.

8. DEPEND ON ALLAH
All in all, your fate has been written by Him.
No matter how well you think you've prepared for your exam,
or how well have you done in every of your paper,
He will give you the verdict in the form of IB results.
I did feel I could have gotten better results,
as I reflected on what had I done for the past 2 years.
But He had given me something better in return,
the wisdom behind the result that I got.
Maybe if I could have gotten 45,
I might not strive for the best in my uni life anymore (?).
No one knows best, but Him.
Put your trust in Allah,
your life will be better,
your future will be brighter :)
